So much fun and lots of exercise if you go search down in the creek. It is also very relaxing to just sit in the creek. It was nice and private when we went to visit. We will go back again. I recommend water shoes and containers to hold your stones.
Fun place to bring the family. Only thing I would suggest is not getting your stones cut here. I have known 3 people who received jewelry late. I was there recently and just asked for a stone to be cut and not set. I was told it would be ready in 4-6 weeks. I was excited to see what it would look like after it was cut so I have been counting down the weeks and checking the mailbox every day.... It has been over 6 weeks and still nothing. I've called twice and the first-time I called they said it wasn't in the done box and jeweler would call me back. I haven't heard from him. The next time a called I got more of an attitude and they said they would call when it was done....I will be calling again to speak with the owner on Monday. So for future reference don't get anything cut or set here. I should have listened when people told me they are super slow and you need to keep calling so they don't forget about it.
Do not go if you enjoy decent customer service. Great place overall if you won't have much interaction with the two children behind the counter. They are very rude, impatient, especially if you have children in the group. If you have any questions they just stare at you like you have an arm growing out of your forehead. The first time I went it was amazing. But that was 13 years ago. Was very disappointed and probably won't spend any more money here. It's a family owned business and those two brats are just there for the check and don't care if that families business suffers because of them. It's really sad.
While it is relaxing and fun to pan for gems while sitting in the river it is disappointing that the staff does not know basic customer service. The staff offer to sort through your stones and let you know what you found; however, I know for a fact that I found a very good size emerald and at some point the girl either threw it into the rock bucket or she placed it in a different location. I just know I did not walk out of the shop with it, even though I asked where it was. We payed $150.00 for 5 of us to mine all day at $25.00 per person. Overall it was a good day, my family enjoyed their selves and we did bring home gems. NO Gold, but lots of gems. My opinion and suggestion is keep what you like and have a gemologist look at your find to tell you what you have not one of the teenage girls that don't like getting their hands dirty .
Wonderful family experience!! Went back everyday of our vacation. My 7 and 12 year old had so much fun!! No complaining of being outdoors or tired, and we were there from morning til close all 3 days. Found so many gems and gold.....unreal!!! Owner and staff are courteous and take time to help you with everything. Brand new, super clean public restroom.
